The Client
One of the largest multifamily operators in the United States, with a portfolio spanning dozens of regional markets.
The program at the center of this activation is the company’s highest internal performance honor. Each year, regional ceremonies bring onsite and regional team members together to be recognized by their peers.
The Challenge
An internal awards ceremony carries a specific risk. The people being honored spend their working lives serving residents, and for one afternoon the company is asking them to be the ones celebrated. If the room feels like a corporate obligation, the gesture lands flat.
The format made it harder. These were afternoon ceremonies, not evening galas. There is no cocktail hour, no after party, and no natural window where a room of guests drifts around looking for something to do. Attendees arrive, take a seat, and stay in it. The program is the event.
A stationary setup depends on guests getting up, walking over, and standing in line. At a seated afternoon ceremony, that behavior does not reliably happen. The activation sits idle throughout the program, gets a rush at the end, and a meaningful share of the room never participates at all.
It also had to hold up six times, across four time zones and four months, in six different venues, with six different regional teams.
The Solution
Lumen Activations deployed the Roaming Photo Booth. Rather than anchoring a structure in a corner and waiting, a trained brand ambassador moved through the room with a mobile capture kit, delivering a branded AI watercolor portrait to guests where they were seated and rendering it to their phone on the spot.
- It removes the participation barrier entirely.Nobody has to leave their seat, find the activation, or decide the wait is worth it. The experience arrives at the table.
- It reaches the people a stationary setup never gets. The guest who would not queue is precisely the guest a recognition program most needs to include.
- It follows the run of show instead of competing with it.Coverage works around the program rather than pulling attention away from the stage.
- It is a keepsake, not a snapshot. The watercolor rendering treats the honor in a way a standard event photo cannot. The output looked like something a team member would frame.
- It scales without dilution.Same capture kit, same rendering, same branded overlay, same guest flow, every market.
Kansas City Proved It. Five Markets Followed.
The program began as a single activation in Kansas City. The response was strong enough that Lumen Activations was brought back for the balance of the 2026 season: Chicago, Denver, Minneapolis, Northern California, and Southern California.
One market became six, and it was earned in a single afternoon.

What the Numbers Mean
An average of 150 sessions per afternoon.
748 sessions across five ceremonies, each compressed into a daytime program with no cocktail hour and no after party. Volume of this kind in a seated format is a direct function of the roaming model. A stationary setup in the corner does not produce these numbers in this room.
Every team member shared twice.
1,514 shares across 748 sessions is a rate of 2.02 shares per guest. People did not simply participate. They distributed. When someone shares their own recognition twice over, the company has cleared the bar that matters most in an internal program: the honor felt real enough to tell someone about.
958 people opted in by name.
958 share records were captured throughout the season, indicating that team members actively entered their contact information to receive and forward their portraits. For an internal event, that is a participation signal, not a marketing list. It confirms the experience was worth the extra thirty seconds.
One team member reached 146 people.
109,499 people reached across 748 sessions means each participating team member carried a branded moment of their own recognition to an average of 146 others in their personal network. In an industry where onsite talent is the hardest role to fill, that is employer brand distribution no recruitment campaign can manufacture. It reads as pride, not advertising, because it is.
62% of shares moved by text message.
938 of 1,514 shares were sent person to person by SMS rather than posted to a feed. That is a high-intent pattern. Someone texting their portrait to a specific person is making a deliberate choice about who sees it, which carries materially more weight than a passive scroll impression.
Consistency Across Markets
A national program is judged by its floor, not its ceiling. Every ceremony performed.
| Market | Shares per session | Reach per session |
|---|---|---|
| Southern California | 2.54 | 185 |
| Minneapolis | 2.28 | 165 |
| Northern California | 2.11 | 152 |
| Chicago | 1.94 | 140 |
| Denver | 1.57 | 112 |
Every market cleared 1.5 shares per guest. Four of five exceeded 1.9. Chicago produced the highest raw volume of the season at 211 sessions and 29,556 people reached. Southern California produced the highest efficiency, converting the smallest guest count into the second-highest reach total.
Why It Worked
The format matched the room.
Afternoon, seated, program driven. The roaming model was selected because a stationary setup would have underperformed in exactly this environment, and the session volume confirms the call.
The experience matched the occasion.
A ceremony that recognizes people at the top of their performance deserves an output that treats it seriously. A watercolor portrait does that.
The operating model traveled.
Six markets, six venues, four time zones, four months, one standard. The client did not have to re-brief, re-scope, or accept a lower-quality experience in a new region.
The value compounded past the ceremony.
2,859 gallery views and 369,913 impressions accumulated in the days and weeks after each event ended. The recognition kept circulating after the room emptied.
